Granny Daycare! And All The Things YOU Didn't Know YOU Needed!

Yep. I sure did. I said to my son and daughter-in-law: "I really want to offer daycare for Liam his first year." And I really meant it. In fact, if I thought I could keep up, I would offer for five days a week vs. the three I am. Honestly, I felt I was being overly needy wanting to spend this much time with him...so I tried to show restraint. I think I did ok.

Now this is not unusual for other grandparents to offer this. In fact, I believe every grandparent I know has offered some sort of option for daycare. What is different is the products out there for babies. As a grandparent it has been awhile since I had to purchase any baby products. Other than the few things I purchased on a list given for the baby shower, or simply clothes, I really was not familiar with all the new items out there. I was absolutely stunned to see all available.products! It is crazy fun (and a little overwhelming) to see what can make the life of raising a baby somewhat easier. And to be clear, and for obvious reasons I would like to state: I invented most of these 'new' items when raising my own children. I just never developed them outside of my mind. I thought about them and how much easier things would be if I had this or that.... like a Diaper Genie (click here). I always believed I could use some sort of diaper container I could place wet, yucky diapers in and it would be contained and even deodorized, compacted and with an easy takeaway bag when full. I never thought of the name Diaper Geenie...but I'll go with it! Something very important for me is being cool (temp-wise) and now my grandson can be as well! I welcome the clip on fan for the stroller...I can use it for Liam while wearing my own neck fan...we will be fan(cy) on our walks around the park! Click here for more info. Another product that I love is the sound machines. Remember walking around with your baby making shushing sounds? Well no more. You can have a portable sound machine that makes that sound...even better and without spittle coming out of your mouth. Genius! (Click here). This sound machine is portable, can be clipped to your shirt (I have done this) or even the stroller or car seat. It creates the sound of mama's womb waaaay better than the sounds we make. I panicked once when I couldn't find it for my grandson. Well, inside I panicked. Outside I tried to look calm and like no big deal if we can't find the one thing he really likes for falling asleep! Another perk: I have one and I love the sound it makes and how relaxed I personally get listening to it. Please no attempts to dissect this.

One last item worth writing about is this arm, waist wrap around pillow called Boppy. While I know this is to be used for feeding babies and resting their sweet heads or practicing 'Tummy Time' (to be discussed), I find this to be a great tummy hider. You place it around your mid-section while feeding the baby their bottle. It becomes an instant Spanx of sorts. No one can see your belly. Perfect while sitting down!!! Win-Win for everyone!
